China’s exports in November edged higher for the first time in 7 months, while imports fell HONG KONG (AP) — China’s exports rose in November, the first increase since April, while imports fell, according to customs data released Thursday. Exports rose 0.5% from a year earlier to $291.9 billion, a sign that demand may be picking up after months, but imports fell 0.6%, to $223.5 billion, after they climbed 3% in October.China has been grappling with sluggish foreign trade this year amid slack global demand and a stalled recovery, despite the country’s reopening after its strict COVID-19 controls were lifted late last year. The trade surplus of $68.4 billion was up 21% compared to October’s $56.5 billion.Demand for Chinese exports has been weak since the Federal Reserve and central banks in Europe and Asia began raising interest rates last year to cool inflation that was at multi-decade highs. The Associated Press

Div. III transfer Raheem Anthony scores 23 in St. Thomas’ 75-71 win over Milwaukee The Tommies opened the season at the University of California on Nov. 6, and the one player they pulled from the transfer portal, former Division III player Raheem Anthony, took one shot and didn’t score as a member of the starting lineup.First impressions proved to be inconsequential. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Anthony, who played the past four seasons at Division III St. Mary’s in Winona, continues to show he belongs on the Division I level. In his latest effort, he had 23 points in the Tommies’ 75-71 win over the Milwaukee Panthers on Wednesday at Schoenecker Arena.Just as significant as the points were Anthony’s hustle, physical play and rebounding, the things he did at St. Mary’s and has continued to do for the Tommies since the season opener.“That was a good learning moment for me,” Anthony said of the game at Cal. “I kind of had the jitters a little bit. I remembered about a year ago being in St. Paul playing against Hamline. Then to be on the Pac-12 logo, it was different....

As he shared no concerns, he tapped his knuckles on the table a few times. The U’s luck didn’t carry over to Wednesday in the Big Ten home opener at The Barn. And it ran out with their best player.Dawson Garcia played only seven minutes with an injured left ankle, and without their all-Big Ten forward, the U fell into a 17-point hole. But the Gophers didn’t let it derail them in a 76-65 win over Nebraska. In his third season, Johnson was carved out any way he can think of for his team to experience winning. And Wednesday’s conference win resilient and significant one, given who they were without.Less than three minutes into the game, Garcia had crumpled onto the court after going up for a rebound and landing awkwardly. He tried to walk it off, but was subbed out and headed to the locker room.Garcia returned to the court nearly 15 minutes later b...
