What to play: Expansion DLC gives players new reasons to revisit ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ and ‘Resident Evil 4’

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 00:00:04 GMT

Downloadable expansions have changed over the years. They used to be ways for developers to capitalize on content that went on the cutting room floor, but slowly, as games left the brick-and-mortar retailers, and became digital, this content became more elaborate and in some cases transformed into projects that were just as good as the original. The past few weeks saw two big expansions. The first comes from CD Projekt Red, which launched its “Phantom Liberty” expansion for “Cyberpunk 2077” and the second is “Separate Ways,” a side story that tells Ada Wong’s side of things in “Resident Evil 4.” That’s in addition to a surprise release from Valve, which doesn’t happen every day. Here’s what you should be playing this weekend: “Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty” — After a disastrous 2020 launch, CD Projekt Red didn’t write off its sci-fi epic. Instead, the developers kept working on it, revamp...

A Newport Beach surgeon and his girlfriend are once again charged with drugging a woman, after an Orange County Superior Court judge on Thursday allowed prosecutors to refile criminal charges in the high-profile case that he had recently thrown out.The ruling by Judge Michael Leversen means Dr. Grant Robicheaux and Cerissa Riley are both once again charged with poisoning a woman and furnishing her with PCP, while Riley is also charged with providing her with cocaine. Opinion: Federal funding for child care is about to fall off a cliff

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 00:00:04 GMT

On Saturday, $39 billion in federal child-care funds made available through the American Rescue Plan Act are set to expire. As a result, close to 3.2 million children could lose their spots in early education programs. Congress can solve this problem. So far, however, it has declined to do so, starting with deciding not to pass the Build Back Better provisions in 2022 that would have made child-care funding permanent.Inaction has consequences. Families who have relied on this assistance since the COVID-19 pandemic will face tough choices. They could see their child-care costs increase by 15% or more. Instead of paying these fees, they might have to choose to reduce their work hours or leave the workforce altogether. This will come as a second blow to families who lost a measure of financial stability when Congress allowed the Child Tax Credit to expire in 2022, a decision that caused the rate of child poverty to more than double in one fell swoop — the largest year-to-year increase i...
